The group heads to a large blue, glowing hallway. Tris and Marcus decide to split up with Tris going through a left door and Marcus going through a right door. Marcus suggests that if she finds the right computer Jeanine will probably be there too. Tris should then force Jeanine to send out the information for her.
Tris makes her way to a room with speakers. The speakers speak out Tris’ name and associated factions. It also tells her that she’s a second generation.
Soon after, an odd spray fills the room. Before she knows it, Tris is in the Dauntless training room. Tris assumes that it’s some kind of simulation. She sees a door off in the distance. Oral instructions from somewhere tell her that she only has five minutes to get to the door before the poison kills her. The only problem is that an identical copy of herself stands between her and the door. She needs to fight herself to escape.
The fight ensues and Tris quickly falls to the ground. Her evil twin mimics her actions and thinks like she thinks. Tris knows it’s going to be a difficult, if not impossible, fight. As they fight, Tris begins to analyze her situation.
She knows that she must share the same weaknesses as her evil twin, including the fear of using a gun. Tris knows that she’s more desperate than her twin, so her twin probably won’t be strong enough to face and conquer this ultimate fear.
Desperation sets into Tris. She wills for a gun to appear. Her evil twin also magically gets a gun. Out of despair, Tris wills herself to shoot her evil twin. The twin isn’t desperate enough to return the shot.
