INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 42
The group has entered a building right next to the Erudite headquarters. After some searching, Christina finds a ladder that can serve as a bridge between the third-story windows of the buildings. Christina uses the window-shattering device to break the windows at the Erudite’s building. The Candors below shoot for a short period of time upwards, but they remain steady in their spots. After their shooting-spree, they go back to their old positions.
Tris volunteers to make it across the ladder first. They get the ladder to form a bridge between the windowsills and Tris begins making it across. Although Christina holds the ladder from her side, the other side is left unsecured. Consequently, Tris’ journey is shaky and dangerous. When she’s nearly across, the ladder slips off the windowsill. Luckily, Tris has grabbed the windowsill with her hands and is able to pull herself up.
The window belongs to a restroom. She encounters an Erudite woman just leaving a bathroom stall. Tris is disguised as an Erudite and she is able to convince the woman that they’re coming back inside for some test data.
Soon, everybody is nearly across the ladder-bridge. The last person to cross is Fernando. Unfortunately, as he makes his way across, his glasses fall to the Candors below. They shoot, he is hit in the leg, and he eventually tumbles to his death.
