INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 31
The simulation leads to Tris dreaming about her mom. They are together in an orchard. The dream is short-lived and when she wakes up she wonders how she never noticed her mom was once Dauntless.
Before long, Peter is escorting her away from her cell again. They get to talking and Peter points out that the two of them are two peas of the same pod. Although he might be bad-natured, she is too. He strengthens his argument with the fact that she murdered Will.
Soon, Tris finds herself in the room with the execution table. Now, the room is filled with more machines and a few people. Jeanine is there too and she forces Tris lie on the table. Tris is strapped in just before Dauntless traitors bring in an injured Tobias.
Jeanine reveals that she wants to get some information out of Tobias, however; it would take too long to get some truth serum from the Candors. Tobias reveals to Tris that Jeanine wants to learn about the factionless’ safe houses. To get this information Jeanine plans to blackmail Tobias by torturing Tris. She is going to insert Tris with a dangerously strong dose of the Dauntless fear-simulation serum.
Tobias has the chance to confess secrets about the safe houses before Tris is injected; however, he remains silent. Before she knows it, Tris is stuck inside of a hallucination.
Tris sees scary crows flying above her. Tobias is still in the room and he wields a knife. He uses the knife to stab himself in the stomach. Tris is helplessly strapped in the table as she watches the crows attack the dying Tobias. Luckily, in the real world, a new needle is plunged into her. It’s a tranquilizer that snaps her out of her hallucination.
After watching Tris suffer, Tobias is quick to give the Erudites the information that they want. He leaves to go reveal what he knows.
Meanwhile, Tris is left strapped on the table. She is dozing off and while she sleeps Jeanine plans to continue experimenting on her. Before they proceed, though, Jeanine wants to introduce Tris to somebody familiar who has been helping her develop these experimental serums. It is none other than her brother Caleb.
