MOCKINGJAY -- CHARACTERS

Beetee
Beetee is a victor from District Three who entered the Quarter Quell with Katniss in Catching Fire. He is a bit quirky, yet incredibly intelligent. Katniss befriended him in Catching Fire and it was his ingenious plan that allowed her to survive the Quell. He too survived the Quell. Now, he assists District Thirteen in developing weapons and technology that can be used against the Capitol.

Finnick Odair.
In Catching Fire Finnick joined in an alliance with Katniss and Peeta during the Quarter Quell. In Mockingjay he resides with the other survivors of the Quell in District Thirteen. There, he too works to join in the rebellion against the Capitol. He remains a close and valuable friend to Katniss.

Johanna Mason.
Johanna is the a District Seven victor who entered the Quarter Quell in Catching Fire. She is friends with Finnick, and through him she formed an alliance with Katniss and Peeta during the Quell.

Boggs.
Boggs is President Coins close assistant. He is assigned to protect Katniss, a job that he takes very seriously.

Annie Cresta.
Annie is a surviving tribute and Finnick’s love interest from District Four.

Cressida.
A television director who is in charge of a camera crew that films and creates short propaganda recordings, propos, which feature Katniss.

Messalla

Castor and Pollux.

Commander Paylor
Paylor is a District Eight rebel commander who Katniss encounters a few times during her journeys.

Delly Cartwright.

Jackson.

Leeg 1, Leeg 2, Mitchell, and Homes.
Leeg 1 and Leeg 2 are sisters who are part of the elite Squad 451. Mitchel and Homes are two others who are also part of this squad.

Tigris.
Tigris is a Capitol resident who helps Squad 451 when they enter the Capitol. She allows the group to take safe refuge in a cellar within a shop. There, they are able to hide out for a while.
Katniss Everdeen.
Katniss is the protagonist of Mockingjay. In the previous book of the trilogy, Catching Fire, Katniss was sent off to the Capitol’s Quarter Quell. She won the Quell and escaped its arena with a few of her allies. Now, Katniss must readjust to her life in a district that was long thought destroyed, District Thirteen. Together with her allies, both new and old, as well as with the leaders of Thirteen, Katniss must brave in a fight against the Capitol.

Primrose Everdeen.
Katniss’ younger sister, Primrose (Prim for short) is Katniss’ prime reason for being a victor of the Hunger Games. In the first book of the trilogy, Prim was chosen to be in the Games, but Katniss chose to volunteer in her place. Now, as the sister of the Mockingjay, Prim lives a safe life with her family. Although quiet and innocent, she is admired greatly by the people of Panem.

Gale Hawthorne.
Katniss’ best friend and confidant, he once hunted and gathered with Katniss in the woods surrounding District Twelve. The two were great friends. In Catching Fire, Gale looked over Katniss’ family while she attended the Quarter Quell. Now, after being relocated, the relationship between Gale becomes something more and perhaps something stronger than ever before.

Mr. Everdeen- Katniss’ father.
Katniss’ father taught Katniss how to use bows and arrows to hunt in the woods. He died unexpectedly when Katniss was a child.

Mrs. Everdeen- Katniss’ mother.
In the first book of the series, Katniss’ mom was somebody that Katniss resented for not being a good, capable mom. Her mom had suffered a long bout of depression after her father’s passing, and she had no motherly capabilities. In Catching Fire, Katniss’ mom became a much stronger, healthier person who took on the role of a stereotypical, loving mother. She continues this same role in Mockingjay.

Peeta Mellark.
Born and raised in District Twelve, he was the son of the local baker. In The Hunger Games, he survived the Games with the help of Katniss, and he even proclaimed his love for Katniss along the way. After the Hunger Games, the relationship he had with Katniss sizzled out and became really quite awkward. In Catching Fire Peeta was forced to parade around with Katniss during their Victory Tour and later he was forced to work together with her to survive the Quarter Quell. In Mockingjay, Peeta’s fate is first in the hands of the Capitol and later in the hands of the only person that can really save him.

Haymitch Abernatchy.
Other than Katniss and Peeta, Haymitch is the only living District Twelve resident to have won the Hunger Games. Given his position as a victor, he served as the mentor and guide for Katniss and Peeta as they fought their way through the Games. Similarly, in Catching Fire when Katniss and Peeta returned to a new arena for the Quarter Quell, Haymitch was there to help guide them. Haymitch continues his mentoring ways in Mockingjay.

President Snow.
A true antagonist in the series, President Snow is the head of Panem. As leader, he makes sure things like the Hunger Games and the Quarter Quell occur to help serve as a reminder of the consequences of the Dark Days. As the leader of the Capitol, he is the ultimate target of the growing rebellion in Panem

Alma Coin.
The president of District Thirteen, Coin leads the rebellion against the Capitol. Her actions seem to be influenced by the hope of freeing the people of Panem from the Capitol’s treacherous regime; however, she might have ulterior motives.

Plutarch Heavensbee.
Plutarch is the former Head Gamemaker of the Capitol. When he was working as Head Gamemaker, Katniss considered Plutarch an enemy. In reality, he was working from the inside to help take the Capitol down. His work was essential in dealing a major blow to the Capitol in Catching Fire. Now, he continues his work to bring down the Capitol from District Thirteen.
