Katniss is fearful of a world without Peeta and Gale. Haymitch understands her anxiety and he offers to put her to sleep with drugs. That way, she can sleep right through the rescue attempt.

Katniss refuses to stay idle while Peeta and Gale are put in danger. It’s too late for her to join the rescue party since they already left, so Haymitch talks to Plutarch to see what Katniss can do to help out. Plutarch suggests that they create and air a new propo to distract the Capitol while the rescue is going on.

Soon, Katniss is above ground with the camera crew. Cressida has a question and answer session with Katniss, and Katniss answers questions openly and honestly about Peeta. On camera, she tells Cressida how she met Peeta. She also speaks of her desire to do whatever is necessary to take down the Capitol in order to save Peeta and end President Snow’s dictatorship.

Next, Finnick takes the spotlight and he finally opens up on some truths that he experienced. It seems that President Snow took advantage of victors in more ways than one. He would sell off victors, solicit their bodies, by blackmailing them. Victors, including Finnick, could either comply or have their loved ones killed. While stuck in this position, Finnick learned many tidbits of information about prominent residents of the Capitol, including President Snow. Finnick, in fact, would trade secrets for his body.

Next, Finnick unleashes all of his secrets before the camera. He reveals secrets about prominent citizens in the Capitol, as well as secrets about President Snow himself. It seems that Snow worked his way up to the top by killing off the competition with poison. It’s even rumored that at one point he pulled a stunt that required him to drink some poison himself, leaving his mouth blistered with permanent, smelly sores. Thus, he perfumes himself in the scent of roses now to cover the stench of the sores.

Once Finnick is done, Katniss can’t help but ask Haymitch if he was sold off the same way that Finnick was. Haymitch reveals that after he defied the Capitol during his Hunger Game victory, his loved ones were immediately executed. He had nothing the Capitol could blackmail him with.

Later, Katniss and Finnick try to kill time in the Special Defense area.

After a bit, the new propo that has been just created is ready to air. Beetee is quite focused and he’s able to air it for nearly its entirety.

After it’s done playing, Beetee describes how the propo fit in with the rescue plan. The plan was complex and now they can only wait to see if it worked.

After what feels like an eternity, Haymitch comes with word that the rescue team has returned. They make their way to the hospital where Katniss watches as an injured Johannes and Peeta are wheeled in. Both are incoherent since they were hit by some kind of gas that the rescue team used. Katniss wants to get to Peeta, but she’s pushed back.

Next, Annie rushes in, finds Finnick, and hugs him. Their love is apparent.

Boggs appears and suggests that Katniss go to Peeta so she can be there when he wakes up. Katniss does so only to find that Peeta is already awake and being inspected by doctors. Katniss imagines them kissing as she approaches; however, when Peeta sees her, he gets up, runs to her, and begins to choke her.
