The prep team is getting Katniss ready to be looked at by her stylist. The prep team and her stylist will get Katniss looking the part for the Games. Eventually she is seen by her stylist, Cinna. Cinna is quite normal looking for a stylist. Katniss is quick to learn that Cinna’s normalcy might be because he is a new stylist.
Cinna treats Katniss to an elaborate meal. The meal appears when Cinna touches a button. Katniss ponders how much time and effort it would have taken her to put together such a meal, yet here they just have to touch buttons for food.
Next, the matter of dressing up Katniss for the Games comes up. We learn that each tribute is dressed in a costume that reflects their district’s primary industry, such as the coal mining industry in District 12. Katniss fears being scantily dressed like past tributes from District 12 who only wore coal dust and some mining gear. Luckily, with a young stylist comes a new vision: instead of dressing only like coal, Katniss and Peeta also will be dressed after what coal does, burn. The two tributes will be wearing black unitards, signifying coal, and they will wear fiery capes that will burn with synthetic fire as they enter the Hunger Games.
The tributes make their way to the bottom of the Remake Center, a horse stable of sorts, where they are placed on chariots. Katniss and Peeta have their capes lit on fire, and they make their way to the City Circle, all the while the crowd cheers at their elaborate costumes. As they ride, Katniss and Peeta hold hands as they were instructed to do by Cinna. Katniss feels odd holding Peeta’s hand since they might have to kill each other soon enough. Nonetheless, with the warm welcome by the crowd, Katniss feels like she’ll have a chance in the Games. She feels like she might be able to attract sponsors thanks to her stand-out appearance.
