Romeo is on his way home from the party. He finds it hard to leave when his heart is now at the Capulet’s house. In other words, he has fallen in love with Juliet and he doesn’t want to leave her.

Benvolio and Mercutio approach. At this point Romeo is by himself and they are looking for him. Mercutio calls out to Romeo by jokingly using the power of Rosaline to lure him towards them. Benvolio states that if Romeo knew Mercutio is speaking this way, Romeo would be upset. Benvolio goes onto say that Romeo is blind with love and so he is okay with being alone in the dark of the night. Mercutio also believes that if Romeo is blind with love then he cannot hit any targets.

Benvolio and Mercutio leave to go to bed. They think their search for Romeo is in vain.
