The scene begins at the Capulet’s house. Lady Capulet and the Nurse are looking for Juliet. The Nurse is a nanny to Juliet. Juliet appears and they speak of Juliet’s age. The Nurse goes into a speech about her own daughter, Susan, who died young. The Nurse raised Juliet as her own. Now, the Nurse is hoping that Juliet will marry soon.
Lady Capulet transitions into marriage talk. She asks Juliet how she feels about marriage. Juliet is not concerned about marriage. Lady Capulet points out that many girls her age are already married in Verona. In fact, the valiant Paris wants to marry Juliet. Lady Capulet describes how handsome Paris is. She strongly wants her daughter to marry him. Juliet says that she will check him out.
A servant enters to let them know that people have come to the party and dinner is served.
